Energy
One of the best overall definitions of energy is from Dave Watson, and states
"Energy is a property or characteristic (or trait or aspect?) of matter that makes things happen, or, in the case of stored or potential energy, has the "potential" to make things happen. By "happen", we mean to make things move or change condition."
Eco Doctor is concerned with finding energy, making it accessible, using it, cleaning up around it and conserving it. We also deal with energy efficiency and renewable energy, in particular:
- Geothermal
- Hydro
- Wind
- Solar
- Biomass
While the world is changing and most countries are turning to renewable energy more and more to stabilise and enhance their supply of electricity, non-renewable sources are still essential for economic stability, and will continue to be for many years to come.
Eco Doctor Energy
Eco Doctor has an extensive and varied background as an energy consultant, including:
Senior Policy Advisor to the New Zealand Minister of Energy on issues of energy efficiency, renewable energy and energy conservation.
Design and presentation of environmental awareness courses for junior to senior management (250 people in all) of Total Fina Elf Indonesie, for their operations in East Kalimantan and Java.

Carried out field work in isolated rural areas of Sumbawa and Flores, Indonesia, for environmental feasibility studies for two proposed 3.5 MW geothermal power plants. This work was done in conjunction with Indonesian officials from the Rural Electrification Scheme and the NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Provision of advice on behalf of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority for various electricity generating proposals using renewable energy, including hydro, wind and solar power.
Preparation of an assessment of environmental effects and a resource consent application for proposed geothermal power plants at four different locations in New Zealand.
Facilitated and researched the writing of the Assessment of Environmental Effects for the development of the Kupe Gas Field, for Origin Energy. The initial scope involved consideration of 11 options over a six month period. The AEE was completed to an excellent standard, on-time and within budget.
Advice on all aspects of environmental management and sustainable development for exploration and production of oil, condensate and natural gas, for Shell Todd Oil Services Ltd.
Specific research and advice into emissions to the environment from offshore installations, including oil, sulphur reducing bacteria and heavy metals in produced water, waste water, air discharge from flares, potential impacts from zinc catalysts, heat loss from underwater pipelines, and sewage in the marine environment.
Conducted a suite of environmental studies including environmental baseline, impact assessment, management, waste water treatment and abandonment reports for an extension of the Total Fina Elf condensate refinery at Senipah, East Kalimantan.
Site investigation and sampling for environmental due diligence at four different sites throughout the North Island for a major oil company.
